This is a five gallon bucket where I have organic hydroponic southern or cowpeas growing without the use of electricity. I started these plants from seed here in eastern Oklahoma in July. The seeds germinated in the hydroponic media which is a mixture of gravel, perlite and vercumilite. The cups are suspended above the surface of the water with about an inch submerged in the organic nutrient solution. This is the Kratky method of hydroponics with the added element of an organic nutrient solution.
