Relentless rain has been pounding the UK since before Christmas and more is forecast for areas already hit by floods. In densely-populated areas there is little room for green spaces to absorb the run-off, leaving Victorian drains and sewers filled to bursting. According to research, vegetated roofs are able to retain on average 82% of rainfall compared to 27% on pure gravel rooftops. Eco Green Roofs co-founder, James Edwards said: “Green roofs enhance the drainage of any flat roof or pitch roof because the water has to pass through the soil in the system. “Then it’s slowly released back into the drainage system as opposed to the sudden shock of normal rain flooding.” http://news.sky.com/story/1201622/green-roofs-could-slow-flooding SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel for more great videos: http://www.youtube.com/skynews Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/skynews and https://twitter.com/skynewsbreak Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/skynews For more great content go to http://news.sky.com and download our apps: iPad https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/Sky-News-for-iPad/id422583124 iPhone https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/sky-news/id316391924?mt=8 Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bskyb.skynews.android&hl=en_GB Related PostsLeaky Roof LogoAquaponics Rocks ( Growing Medium ) Wash Install Plant – $40 Aquaponics – Barrelponics Made EasyHow To: Install Flashing on a RoofHome Inspector Chicago Shows How to Install a Green Roof | (773) 382-8492 | CALL US!OptigrXeroflor Time Lapse of XF301 Green Roof install June 3-5, 2013
