A presentation by Tia Greene-Duarte of Kahuku High & Intermediate School (Hawaii) on local food production, aquaponics, and the Garden Tower (www.gardentowerproject.com). Students are integrating ecological farming technologies to maximize food production, minimize waste, and learn about biological interactions. The Arduino platform is being used for environmental monitoring and data collection in the systems. The Garden Tower Project is supplying Kahuku High & Intermediate School with another Garden Tower(s) for expanded experimentation and educational opportunity. The Garden Tower integrates vermicomposting with red wigglers (and other worms) with container gardening allowing for enhanced nutrient cycling and organic food production from compostable kitchen waste. One Garden Tower is not large enough to support one person (we wish this were possible!); at least not with any vegetables we know about! Thank you Tia, friends, and educators for sharing about your project! This sounds great to mix the two systems, but where is the final result?
