Experience nature up close with the Insect Lore Live Butterfly Garden. This enthralling educational kit gives kids the opportunity to observe butterflies through every stage of their lifecycle. Children ages four and up can observe five real caterpillars eat and grow to form their chrysalis and then emerge as Painted Lady butterflies. Children will love feeding the butterflies in their included observation habitat and then releasing them into the wild.

One of these kits was sent to us by Back to the Roots (manufacturer).
The flaws in the design run very deep for maintenance and long term use.

    1. Roots fill up the drain hole.
    2. Poor Oxygenation of the water based on drain design.
    3. Tank is only large enough to hold one fish yet grow many plants on top.
    4. Ratio for Fish Waste ( nutrients ) to Plants up top is not enough to grow much other than Wheat Grass.
    5. Cleaning this kit is messy because you have to remove entire top and set somewhere.

After testing my opinion on this Kit is that its a Gimmick designed to sell to people looking for something stylish to keep in their homes or offices.
For people looking to try aquaponics for the first time I want to let you know this will only discourage and frustrate you after a couple months of use.
This is just honest feedback to all.

there are much more eco-friendly versions of products just like this. Or how about teach your kids something really valuable. Building an aquaponics garden out of recycled materials like 95% of people do. This teaches sustainability and aqua farming. Not how to waste money of two chumps injection molded pipe dreams

Why can't I just build my own? What's the flow rate and chemical balance with regards to the water? What are the materials needed? I'll go find out…

There are many factors in learning home aquaponics. One resource I discovered which successfully combines these is the Keiths Ponics Site (google it if you're interested) definately the most useful course that I've heard of. Check out this unbelievable site.

Bought mine at Petco (on sale).  We love it!  Home to one Beta and two Danios.  The water fogged initially, but settled in time.  We swapped the original plant medium with clay pellets which seem to work even better!  Now, with fresh mint, we'll have delicious "Mojitos" forever 🙂
