Is that weed barrier cloth? Could one use plastic instead of landscape cloth? I am concerned the water would drain out super fast and runoff is nearly criminal in this drought. Also, any ideas about a freestanding vertical pallet garden? maybe two of them back to back, A frame style? thanks!
I love it. Great idea.
Good advice. I was wondering if the bottom has to be covered. Can't we just use the land?
Thank you so much. Very well done video – I can't wait to make one.
Hi, I have a constant watering system for my pallet gardens. (I have some vertical, some leaning and some flat). 8 at the moment and they are all watered continuously and slowly (the water cycles back and forth to a bucket ) from a 4.5 watt aquarium bubble pump through my low pressure air "pneumatic grid". This helps them grow very quickly. And surprisingly, water consumption is fairly low.! (Perhaps the plants are cooler and evaporation is less? Check my pallet garden playlist for details

How do you prevent the soil from falling out in the front once the plants go into winter hoibernation. Strawberries are often only really good in the second year, so it would be good to bring that pallet garden over the winter. Do you have advice for that?
Thanks for the great tip! That would certainly make them easier to move around.
As way to give the wooden pallets additional frame strength, should one find the need to move then, I recommend to staple chicken wire around its frame prior to the application of the landscape felt. Thank you so much for the video 🙂
Stamped on the pallet you should see an HT for heat treated. Avoid ones stamped with MB which means methyl-bromide. You want to get a pallet that is fairly clean, pressure washing with a detergent is a good idea if you plan to grow food plants.
Water the top and it will drain down through the pallet.
How about watering the plants when the pallet is standing up ?
Brilliant! Another thing to add to the garden.
I love her name… Autumn
It depends. Pallets not shipped across international borders can be untreated wood, these are considered expendable and are often junked. Pallets for international shipping are either heat treated or chemically treated, these are stamped with IPPC and either HT for heat treated or MB for methyl-bromide. Treated pallets are much more expensive and often re-used. If you are concerned look for untreated or heat treated pallets and pressure wash them with a detergent before using them.
Yes, we cut two versions one for people just interested in making a pallet garden and one for people who wanted to make a playhouse!
AWESOME! thanks.
I just had deja vu 😛
Very nice!
