So is this method used to create less waste, what's wrong with cutting off half a tab on every other shingle, start with a whole shingle, next row start with shingle with a half a tab cut off, then the next row start with a whole shingle?

How come that you cut the shingle that reached over the apex before ridging, would it not have been beneficial to leave it complete and ridge over it? "Belt and braces" so to speak. (layman question) doing my first roof in the garden tomorrow.

The nails are in the wrong location…. ??…. They are suppose to go on the tar line….

This method allows for a more efficient installation because someone can be completing the first row of shingles while you are laying up the second and third row. Installing one row at a time would produce the same offset results, though it may take longer to complete.
