Hannah is harvesting vegetables from our vegetable garden. The garden is growing quite well, but is a big job to keep up with the weeds. We grow large part of our food here on the homestead. We recently planted our second round for our mid-summer garden. That planting included Okra, Corn, Beans, pumpkins, hubbard squash, zucchini and watermelon. We try to harvest daily and right now we are getting quite a stockpile of various produce including tomatoes, squash, Okra, cucumbers, beans, and beets. We also have a nice stand of Swiss Chard growing and harvest it periodically for meals. We use natural organic growing practices with no chemical pesticides or herbicides. This makes it a bit harder to prevent bug damage, but helps to keep a balance. Use of chemical pesticides in a garden often will throw the balance of insect life off. It kills (sometimes) the bugs you want to get rid of, but also eliminates the beneficial bugs as well. Then there is no beneficial bugs to keep the bad bugs in check. So you may successfully eliminate one pest and allow two other types pests to have a population explosion.
