The next stage of construction for the Food Fence. I put posts into the barrels and strung the stock fencing between them, then made a few wire loops and hung a few planters with bell pepper plants. As soon as I get some more wire (probably tomorrow) I will hang the rest of the gallon pots of bell peppers, and then I will add additional pots and soil blend for beans, perhaps some strawberries and other food plants. In the barrels I have cantaloupe and cucumber vines started, which will be trained up the fence as well. I still have one barrel to fill with soil and plant with something vining to train up the fence. By the end of the growing season the fence should be a nearly solid wall of foliage and food. I hope to do many updates of this as it is a proof of concept experiment for a larger structure I call a Food Canopy, with which households can grow all the food they need, even with very limited space. The underlying goal is providing food security for all.
