I started this hydroponic rail system about 30 days ago, having absolutely zero experience in hydroponic growing. Thru a few basic steps, I was able to grow some perfect hydroponic lettuce. If I could grow lettuce that looks and tastes this good, then you can do it too. It really is that easy.
Note: Some people suggest changing the reservoir every 2 weeks or so. In this situation I did not. However, I would not recommend going beyond the time needed to complete the growth of the lettuce. Before starting a new crop, the reservoir SHOULD be emptied, cleaned, and refilled with fresh nutrients and water.
The variety of lettuce is Adriana. It is a heat tolerant butterhead lettuce that I purchased from Johnny’s Seeds. The nutrient mix is a combination of a water soluble 4-18-38, calcium nitrate, and Epsom salt that I mixed at a 2-2-1 ratio, with approximately 8 grams of 4-18-38, 8 grams of calcium nitrate, and 4 grams of Epsom salt per 5 gallons of water.
Here is a video explaining how I mix the fertilizer and where to buy it : http://youtu.be/vYv9iu2NI3M

What are you measuring with the PPM? What nutrient? Or conductivity??
great video! keep up the good work brother?
Good job man. Those lettuce and tomatos look great!?
Great tutorial you have here, thanks! I do have a couple questions though — is there a chance the PVC post jackets, or the water reservoir, would leech any chemicals into the water? And if so, would the plants absorb them??
this is a great video! thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience!?
I love your videos. What I love best about this video is the tip on drilling the holes with the hole saw. Using it in reverse makes total sense. I've had my drill jump out of my hands on more than one occasion and the resulting holes are terrible. Thanks for this great tip.?
I have a dumb question. I want to build a hydroponic lettuce get-up like yours under my porch in the backyard, but the area that I want to set it in does NOT get any direct sun and is ALWAYS SHADED. Will my lettuce grow in this area??
I'm a Meatatarian, and I find this offensive.?
Hi, you encourage me to go try a small hydroponics of my own with your videos. I salute you. thanks and keep them videos coming..?
Thanks mate I enjoyed ya clip?
so what was the cost for the whole setup including when the lettuce was done(maintenance).?
is you rail level? or do you have one side slightly higher than the other??
I have watched many of your videos, but I have never heard you talk of the water temp in a Kracky grow bed. What is the best temp??
Great video. Thanks for all the wonderful information?
FANTASTIC…WOOF…….wow that sandwich looked "DELISH" aye buddy? LOL…..best lookin' lettuce I have seen. I wished I could have a simple TOWER type for my apartment Big Window. I can open the blinds, but I live in Florida and get lots of Sunny days.not too direct tho.?
What did u make the rail from, can u give the name and detail..?
How do you start your lettuce seeds?
can you please tell me the type of seeds are this lettuce you are working on please?
please what is a nutrient mix??
I love your channel, you're so laid back. It's like Mitch Hedberg is explaining it to me – and that can only be a good thing.?
This video was made years ago. Now they make the so-called growing medium out of a very fragile material that's like a paper towel when it's wet. When its fresh and new straight out of the box it sort of has a little body. But as soon as it gets wet or contacts water it becomes very mushy. So pour your water in the tray first before you place their growing medium in or else the force of the running water will break it up into bits. ?
I plan on using cloth to keep the roots moist instead of paper towels.
Thanks for Sharing!?
i am looking for more natural ways rather than packets.?
Hey, Let everyone know you can probably get a few grows on the coco mats.?
thisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguythisguy…?
He makes it all seem so complicated.?
The issue with hydroponics is you have to purchase "plant food" or nutrition and supplements that are costly.?
Two questions:
Why is wheatgrass-growing with soil to prefer?
Is that azomite also available in Europe?
Greetings from Germany….
that is not hydroponically growen?
"This GUY"…?
Why are you using a cocunut mat? they can grow just fine on their own, their rootmass will create a natural mat for them.?
Bag it tight though?
Once it's ready for cutting, you can cut the whole crop off and refrigerate any unused portions for up to 10 days.?
Hi @Norly! To answer your question is …you can regenerate as many times as you'd like…but as I tell all of my customers and on my companies website, you only want to regenerate it one time, because it will start to deminish in potency, hope that helped! :)?
Hi… do you know how many times can i regrow the wheatgrass??
very imformative and practical.?
do you send the kits to Germany? How much is the postage??
Thank you for the movie.
I have just built my own aquaponics system. That it was simple, easy and it looks and features like the system which cost thousands more, by following this guide
