the heat does not make them bitter …. the flowering does .latice that is going to flower you only use for seeds ,not to eat . and i think (not sure , havent tryd it myself yet) you can add stuff to the water to change a bit of the flavour. dont know if this works on flowering latice (dont think so) also why not make the pvc system one pipe and not how you did it 6 parelelle pipes . so you would feed the water on the funny pipe at one point in the pipe ,water runs to the left goes in pipe nr2 runs to the right goes in pipe 3 runs to the left and so on . at the last pipe you run it back to a filter in your tank (one you can remove and clean .so your tank has clean water in it. just like an aquarium does ,also stuff that ends up in the pvc like leaves or sticks ,rocks or what ever wont glog up your system/pomp and you dont have to use small hosses.. what do you think about this? im no expert but planing on building it this way indoors. also what do you add to your water??
Of course pvc is safe, what do you think your water runs through under your house??

Hydroponics is an effective system but it also have some disadvantage, you need to shop for some "plant food", nutrients and supplements which can be high-priced. Before making any hydroponics system, it is best to think about the benefit from aquaponics system, which can automate 95% of work.?
Do plants grown this way actually have any flavor??
looks great, except i dont understand why you chose to put the hydro clay in the pvc tubes instead of using net pots? It seems to me that your system would clog up sooner or later..?

I can't speak to the fish aspect. What I did was buy a "mid size" pump that I knew would probably be overkill and it was but it didn't matter as the large return pipe prevented the tubes from flooding. Also, if it is pumping more than you need–I had another system which had that problem–water was filling the plant basin too fast…so I kept drilling small holes in the basin until the water level was where I needed it to be.
