In this episode, I show Mary Jo how to make a simple, inexpensive indoor grow light box for the vegetable seedlings we started indoors a week ago. This will give them the light they need to grow big and strong before we put them outdoors in the garden an 6 weeks.

thats a really neat idea you got there so what kind of light did you say you needed and how long did you say that you needed to set your timer for and how do you set a timer for the time you said
Seedlings need air flow. The breeze from a small fan promotes strong stems.
Great Series! I love your video's as well as MIgardener's! It's great to seepeople connect by gardening! Awesome job guys!
Would using a clear rubbermaid bin work as well? I think it would be help in seeing how close the light was to the plants. I know the inside is covered with foil, but I assume a little window without wouldn't be a negative thing? Ow, wow! I wish I had discovered you before today. I guess it's too late to get started now, but I can't wait to try this next winter.
This will be great for my umm…. tomatoes
Hey Kim, I started my seedlings in peat pots (I know, pretty late) and it's been a week. My cucumber seedlings have sprouted but they've gotten leggy (around 3-5 inches from base to leaf). My light source was little to none, so that's why I moved them to an east-facing window. What do I do now? They haven't even gotten their true leaves yet, so I can't transplant them. Can I bury cucumber stems like tomatoes? Thanks.
I don't understand…are the vegetables not germinate for do this?
leaving not living haha! Capisci?
I did all that but looks like the seedlings need some air/ventilation or you ll see some "white mold" grow on the soil…so I had to get the little plants as high as possible in the container and get the grow lights on top of 2"x4" living air all the way around. They look better now. I do use a 4 lights, 100W each.
Hi thank you for this. I am watching these all right now because I started seeds and I'm not sure what to do now. Some look really nice and some not to nice. I heard you saying they need sun from the top so that they don't get leggy, well I have some leggy lettuce and leggy cabbage and I'm not sure if they are still any good. I also transplanted my peas that were doing amazing and now they are falling all over the place 🙁 Please help. I didn't know to do the grow light so Ive had a rack outside in the sun and some on my window sill. Thank you
No way that bin is $5. The cheapest the site has listed like that one is $8. Plus, tax. O no! That means it's more than $10 garden. LOL
The light bulb that's used does it give offsome good heat? I used a normal light bulb 60 watt and it gave off alot of heat I got my corn comming up in like Day 1/2.. Want light bulb heats box so germinates them but saves power as well thanks love ur videos..
i did this today following your exact steps, but instead of using that grow light,i used christmas lights! i hope now my tomatoes will start sprouting.
cheers yes coming on good thanks ;-)
I've got my grow light 45wat hydroponic plant grow 225 LED light lighting Panel indoor growing bulb Lamp I hope that will do the trick what do you think
Thank you for this post, I will get this started right away. This is wonderful cause I need some stronger light and now have it thanks to you.
Hi Kim, this looks awesome. Thank you for sharing the set-up. I was just curious about one thing thought, the air circulation in this thing is not a problem?
I was thinking of using silver coated foam board to do the same thing. What do you think ?
